From 519,200 to 682,800 in a week or so
I've seen my network through LinkedIn grow tremendously in the past week or so. Here's an excerpt from an email I sent to a friend in the Bay Area.

Nick
I'm gratified that you had such a fruitful connection through
LinkedIn. It's interesting that you mention I'm heavy on networking
in my blog. I truly believe that a lot of challenges we face can be
helped by other people and access to them is what we need
[and vice-versa for them], IF we are willing to be more interdependent [not codependent!].

Thanks for sharing your positive experience with LinkedIn.com Nick. I do believe your comments will encourage others to partake in something that could change their ideas about their prospects for the future.
I have been focusing more and more on networking for over four years. I ask others for references to just about everything. When someone introduces you to someone else, it's almost always better than finding something through a stranger's advertising. The last time I got a plumber through the phone book was probably 5 years ago and the guy was not someone that we would recommend to anyone based on his work. I really appreciate a friend of mine who told me that even though he knew people in a particular area of insurance, he couldn't recommend anyone if I was interested in the quality of customer service. The people he knew were honest people, but terrible at customer service.
Here's the comparison of my network at LinkedIn with the numbers for November 24th listed first in each case.

No matter how you slice it, I have recently added 5 people who are directly connected to me and they clearly have a large network of their own because being linked to them has grown my network by over 163,000 people. Keep in mind that this growth happened in just over a week. One of the five actually sent me a request to be linked, so it's not just me sending requests to others. After a certain point, your personal network becomes so large that you attract others simply because of size.
